Well well well another week another typical Chiefs win. Some might say the Chiefs were able to win 2 games tonight. They beat the Chiefs and the Bucs.
From the very first drive the Chiefs were once again able to move the ball down the field on just about every drive. Then they would do something that would kill the drive. You had a WR not know where he was on the field on what should have been a TD. You had a stupid trick play that set the drive back and you had to settle for 3 points. You had Kelce fumble the ball. All these things on any other team would mean you lose the game. But for the Chiefs it means they still win. Once again one would think that they just simply can not keep getting away with these things. But once again they just keep getting away with them. This is just how the Chiefs play. You either learn to embrace it or you end up going mad. I for one have just learned to embrace it and realize that the Chiefs will much more often than not find a way to pull the game out. The best news of all is they are moving the ball with so many key guys out. Just wait until we get a guy or two back by the end of the season.
I don't know about anyone else but I was ready to hit that panic button when it looked like Mahomes was really hurt. From the look on his face it looked like he knew that he was done for the year. As they were helping him off the field all dreams of the 3peat seemed to be over. But once again somehow Mahomes just recovered. There is something in that man that he can just recover far faster than anyone I have ever seen. I am sure that he is going to be very sore when he wakes up in the morning. But man that was scary for a moment.
HOW ABOUT DHOP. Has been with the team a little less than 2 weeks and already is coming up big time. We did see a moment where he and Mahomes were not in sync just yet. You have to expect that to happen given how quickly he has had to be a major part of the offense. But that has to be the scary thing for other teams he had a big night and he and Mahomes still are not what they are going to be by the end of the year. Which is good news for us. Brett Veach is just good at his job.
Xavier Worthy had another rookie moment tonight on that first drive. It is very frustrating to have to watch at times. But you have to remember even Tyreek Hill didn't come in year 1 as what Tyreek Hill would become. He didn't even see the field as much as Worthy has this year with all the injuries that we have had to deal with. This is what we are just going to have to remember when watching Worthy this year. These things might frustrate us right now. But it also could speed up his development as a WR. And that might be what makes this situation worth it all.
So about the Kelce is done thing we were hearing at the start of the season. Yeah I think he has put that issue to bed. He did have the fumble tonight. I think he has done that in a game once a year for a while now. I know he did it against the Bengals a couple of years ago in a loss. But at the end of the day he was a huge reason why the Chiefs won that game.
I am very happy that Hunt continues his redemption tour with the Chiefs. I thought the play calling went away from him for a while but it found it's way back to him. It has to be a feel good moment for him to get that game winner in OT. Dude went through a lot. He brought it on himself but now he is getting redemption on and off the field. And that is what you want to see.
The defense tonight was not the best game that they have had. They just had real trouble with the TE. It's one game so I am far from pressing the panic button about it. But with a team like the Chiefs down their top WR's and they didn't have a Kelce or Dhop to move the ball like the Bucs were able to. I wouldn't be mad at all if we got some help at CB. Like the WR spot it has been hurt with guys hurt. We might need to make a move there to help sure up the defense. Maybe tonight's game gave them a little extra motivation to do so.
For a good part of that game it looked like the Chiefs were going to have that yearly game where they lose a game to a team they have no business losing to. The Colts game a couple of years ago comes to mind as an example of that. I still expect that to happen as I still do not believe that the Chiefs are going to go 17-0 this year. It would not surprise me at all to see the Chiefs drop a game to the Panthers or Browns coming up.
For now it's on to the hated Denver Donkeys. These are the two games every year I just want to win so bad. As Denver is the team I hate the most in pro sports. They have a good defense that is going to be hard to move the ball against. So the Chiefs are going to have to play a cleaner game than they did tonight. Lets take these clowns out and keep the winning streak going. To hell with the Denver Donkeys! GO CHIEFS
