Well here we are the start of another season. And this year the Chiefs are chasing history.
Before I talk about what's to come lets talk about where we are and the past. There was a long time I thought that I would never see the Chiefs win a super bowl. The 2012 season was by all accounts rock bottom. It was a season that we had a lot of hype before the season. We were coming off a season that many thought (including myself) was held back due to injury. We were getting Charles and Berry back and we had a nice offseason on paper. We all know how that ended. So for the Chiefs to be where they are today is just amazing. So before we go for history I like to take a moment to appreciate no matter how this season goes where we are.
So here are some predictions I have going into the NFL season mostly Chiefs but some others as well
First I think the Chiefs will drop games to the Ravens, 49ers, and split with one of the AFC west rivals. The Ravens and 49ers will be out for revenge and have just a little more motivation than the Chiefs for those games. So I will not be surprised at all to see us drop those two games. It's kind of what I felt when we played Philly last year and we saw how that played out. So I think we drop those games including on opening night. I am also thinking not having Hollywood will hurt us against the Ravens. So I think our chances of being upset against the Ravens are just a bit higher. But as I always say for any game when you have 15 you have a chance. But Those are a couple of games I see us dropping.
The Chiefs will still win the AFC west. Lets face it they are the clear best team in the division. I know many are once again high on the Chargers even more with them getting Jim Harbaugh as their head coach. I am reminded of all the chatter we heard about the Raiders when they brough Jon Gruden how they were going to be major threats to the Chiefs. I have a gut feeling that this will work out about the same for them. That just might be my Chiefs bias but that's just the feeling i have. Lets be real Harbaugh's recent success has a major * on it. And his NFL success has never been long term just a short spurt. So I will not concede the west to them until they prove it.
Some threats to the Chiefs besides Baltimore which I still think is the biggest in the AFC. Cleveland I think they have been a little under the radar. They have a really good offense. They went out and got Judy that gives them another weapon, Something I think they really lacked last season. They were a playoff team after losing their real franchise player in week 2 last year in Nick Chubb. They are not getting enough attention. I think they are a team that it's very possible can make some noise. It will all be up to if Watson plays like a franchise QB or not.
Houston is another team can be a threat. They were **** good probably a year ahead of schedule last year. And they added another weapon in Diggs. Diggs in a new situation won't yet be a headache and will be more of a team guy at first. Which at least for this year is good for them. They also have a solid defense and can make some noise. The question for them is if there will be a sophomore slump for Stroud?
The Jets are a team that is there as well. But I am going to have to see Rodgers playing at his MVP day pace before I can say they are a threat. Until then they are the Jets as we all know them
On the NFC side of things. I see a 3 team race really. 49ers,Lions and Packers. The 49ers clearly are not going anywhere the question will be Mccaffrey not getting hurt. He didn't last year
and they made it to the super bowl. The Lions are a team that has been on the rise. I am not sold on Goff being a super bowl level QB myself. But with their defense and their coach has done an amazing job since he got there they will be there. The Packers were a team that had 2 seasons last year. But once they came around they were playing as good as anyone. Love really grew in a short time. I think they will be a team that will be there at the end as well. I would put the Cowboys there as well but well they are the Cowboys and we know how that story ends.
So there are some of my predictions for this NFL season. The odds of a 3 peat are slim. BUT WE ARE THE FREAKING CHIEFS. AND WE HAVE 15 NOBODY ELSE DOES. LETS GO MAKE SOME HISTORY!
